Double Drums: „Groovin‘ Christmas“ *** fully booked
Christmas and drums, does that go together? Yes. This is the unequivocal answer of the award-winning percussion duo "Double Drums" with the artists Alexander Glöggler and Philipp Jungk. With their expedition across genres, styles and continents, they impressively prove that percussion can sound not only dynamic and rhythmic, but also melodic, emotional and solemn.
Jungk and Glöggler's interpretations are as versatile as the selection of pieces in their "Groovin' Christmas" programme. The repertoire ranges from the Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach to German ("Morgen Kinder wird's was geben") or international folk songs ("Good Rest Ya Merry Gentlemen") to original compositions such as the Asian-style "Mongolian Sleighride".
The artists not only possess enormous creativity and joy in playing, but also outstanding instrumental skills. They received their master class diploma in classical percussion from Peter Sadlo. In addition to their own programmes, Glöggler and Jungk are also on the classical road, as soloists and ensemble members in renowned orchestras such as the radio symphony orchestras of the SWR or BR, the orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera, as members of the internationally renowned "Li Biao Percussion Group", but also in collaboration with classical music star Sol Gabetta and the rock band Amon Düül.
Without having to forego beloved melodies and listening habits, the magic of Advent takes on completely new facets with Double Drums. A varied Christmas spectacle, sometimes joyfully energetic, sometimes contemplative, sometimes full of humour.
Tickets for the concert in the meetMusic series can be found here.
Admission starts at 5 p.m., the concert starts at 6 p.m.
