meetMUSIC: Johanna Summer | Resonances
Undiscovered worlds between classical music and jazz
She is one of the great up-and-coming talents of European jazz: the pianist Johanna Summer has found her very own sound with improvisations on classical piano music.
On the basis of classical piano works, she creates new worlds of sound and relates them in her improvisations. Whether with classical pieces, original compositions or jazz standards - she always manages to develop a broad, dynamic narrative, sometimes delicate and fragile, sometimes full of tension, rhythmically gripping or irresistibly melodic.
Whoever listens to Summer does not have to be a proven jazz fan. In terms of sound material, this music is not only influenced by jazz and blues, her pieces often sound like classical music. The term "jazz" is therefore actually too narrow for this music. "Improvised music" would probably be the most appropriate term. This jazz musician, who often does without jazz colours, meets with enthusiasm from the audience, because her improvisations unfold a unique pull.

"Her music is full of imagination and without categories. Coming from European classical music, with a wonderful touch, she has created something perfect and her own. Beautiful music from A - Z. A new star in the piano sky", enthuses piano icon Joachim Kühn.
Johanna Summer is not only known on European stages, she has also performed in the USA and Israel. She has won several prizes at the German national competitions Jugend musiziert and Jugend jazzt.
