THREADS. Musical intervention – Francesco Marzano & Liga Korne
as part of the finissage of the exhibition THREADS
The musical intervention Threads deals with the various possible interpretations of threads, knots and nets. The program for transverse flute (also bass and glissando flute) and piano contains contemporary compositions based on lines, knots and threads as compositional elements. The potential of the thread motif as a generative principle for classical music of the 20th and 21st centuries is explored in solo pieces and in the interweaving of sounds in polyphony. The performances will take place at various locations in the exhibition THREADS.
Francesco Marzano (born in Bari, Italy) studied music and literature in Milan as well as flute, performance and musicology at the Hochschule für Tanz und Musik in Cologne and at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. In 2023, he participated as a performance artist in the 54 Hours Performances at Museum Folkwang under the direction of Marina Abramović and Billy Zhao.
Liga Korne (born in Riga, Latvia) studied piano at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Peter Lawson and at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne with Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Susanne Blumenthal. She has already won several prizes, including the Peter Donohoe Prize, the Patricia Cunliffe Award and the Rollo Davidson Prize. She has performed as a soloist at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Wigmore Hall in London and the Philharmonie Luxembourg.
