The Renaissance was the age of discovery. Horizons expanded as explorers ventured into unknown territories. As early as the second century CE, Claudius Ptolemy recorded geographical data, routes and places that would later help early modern explorers navigate new paths, culminating in works such as the Ulm Atlas. This guided tour demonstrates how knowledge can be lost, transformed or interpreted differently, as illustrated by the record of Beatus of Liébana in the Codex Burgo de Osma. Behind all of this lies the observation, measurement and collection of data.
