meet MUSIC: Jazz Trio Iiro Rantala, Dan Berglund and Anton Eger

Finnish pianist Iiro Rantala is set to dazzle once again. He returns to Draiflessen, this time around with his trio, and will perform a range of works from the 1950s to the present. In this programme, Rantala tips his hat to a number of great jazz composers, including Keith Jarrett and Toots Thielemans, lending their works an invigorating lightness. He’ll also perform his own pieces – the juxtaposition revealing the way he sees jazz today: as a music that’s virtuosic, profound, yet always entertaining.

He’s joined by former Esbjörn Svensson Trio bassist Dan Berglund – a forceful yet unobtrusive presence – and drummer Anton Eger, whose honed playing supplies a versatile yet vigorous rhythmic foundation.
