DIGITALS are different digital activities and formats that extend the program of the Draiflessen Collection in varied and diverse ways, over and above visits to the exhibitions.

DIGITALS Fashion Imagery: The 1920s in C&A Advertisements

FASHION IMAGERY is our first purely digital format and it can be viewed and experienced on our website beginning May 13, 2020. The presentation showcases the fashions of the 1920s in an interactive format, offers a vivid insight into C&A’s innovative approach to clothing production during this decade, and takes a focused look at women’s, men’s, and children’s clothes from this period. In twelve audio-visual stories, viewers can immerse themselves in the world of C&A’s product range and advertising during the 1920s, and, more generally, in the world of 1920s fashion.

The fashion and spirit of the 1920s still fascinate, inspire, and capture imaginations today. As forms of mass media, magazines and newspapers disseminated the newest trends in countless articles and advertisements. C&A used the latter to promote the latest in women’s, men’s, and children’s fashion.

These advertisements form the core of this presentation and chronicle the diverse range of changing styles – the drop waists, elaborate embroideries, sailor collars, lounge suits, and other trends. In addition, the advertisements afford insights into the production and supply of C&A clothing – and, with their allusions to the political, economic, and social developments of the time, offer a look at the 1920s that extends beyond the realm of fashion.

The digital offerings will be expanded during the run of the presentation – information will be provided here at www.draiflessen.com whenever new content is added.

DIGITALS Exhibitions in Dialog

Members of our staff will discuss the works on display in the exhibition HOPE via Instagram and Facebook on regularly scheduled dates. They’ll also be answering questions from online visitors – live or via chat. More information on dates, times, and how to participate will be available soon under Events at www.draiflessen.com.

Given these challenging times and in keeping with the theme of the exhibition, we’d like to give our visitors seven days of HOPE. From May 18 to 24, we’ll be providing fascinating insights into the exhibition and beyond: conversations with artists, curators, gallerists, writers, and last but not least Draiflessen staff members, who’ll share with us their ways of looking at and thinking about hope.

We’re also intermittently posting short videos on our website and social media channels that present highlights from our showcase exhibition ON THE THIRD DAY . . .  and our presentation PERSONAL FAVORITES: ONKEL CANTERBUMM – HOW AN ADVERTISING CHARACTER MADE IT INTO THE ARCHIVE.

DIGITALS DO IT!

In times when we are unable to meet and creatively respond to art in our exhibition spaces, we’re supplying you with the inspiration to create on your own.

Our DO IT!s provide tips and instructions for making art at home, on the go, and at school – for families, children, and adults.

Please visit www.draiflessen.com for information and updates on the DIGITALS, including times and dates.
