Description

Three slender, C-shaped curved legs support the main part of this small item of furniture, a globe which is closed to the outside whose function is not revealed until it is opened. At the same time, the upper hemisphere, whose diameter is somewhat smaller, is meant to be pushed back by 90 degrees and lowered into the lower hemisphere. In its vertical surface, the axisymmetrically divided interior has two drawers one below the other. The horizontal surface is subdivided into a total of eight segments of different sizes: a removable, open, subdivided thread compartment is flanked by two smaller compartments with grooved, removable tilting lids; a pincushion is mounted in the middle, in front of the thread compartment, on the back of the removable lid, while two compartments each on the left and right whose lids are also completely removable have not been assigned a specific function. A key indication that the little table comes from Germany is that its main body is made of oak, which was only used in furniture-making here.
