Description
This men’s dress shirt was made from a cream-colored cotton fabric with golden-brown and white stripes. Never worn, it has been preserved in the condition in which it was sold: folded around a cardboard shape with sloping shoulders, kept in shape by pins and staples and sporting a paper strip whose printed inscription—the C&A logo and “C&A mako POPELINE”—has the colors blue, white, and red. With its collar supported by a cardboard strip, the shirt was packaged in transparent plastic wrap (since removed for conservational reasons) and was in perfect shape for the self-service counters which C&A started pushing in the 1940s for clothing items in the lower price range and which have been in use for men’s shirts since 1950.
