Description
The artist chose this title deliberately, because in Chinese (Yichun) it is also the name of her hometown, with which she associates many positive childhood memories. This mood characterizes the painting, in which she has depicted herself three times, accompanied by a large fish. In Chinese culture, the fish symbolizes good fortune, prosperity, abundance, and a positive fresh start—especially during the Chinese New Year. Haiying Xu (b. 1975) is a Chinese painter who has lived and worked in Germany for many years.
