Description
C&A launched its Palomino brand, accompanied by the popular mechanical rocking horse, in 1972. As well as being the name of a small, sturdy breed of horse, Palomino is also a play on words: “BE MY PAL – Be a PAL-O-MINO”. Alongside the numerous Palomino-themed giveaways, such as toy horses and key rings, the coin-operated rocking horses – which still stand in many stores today – appealed in particular to young customers, offering them a fun experience that ensured that they (and their parents) kept coming back. C&A’s advertising slogans for the brand thus include “Der Welt erste Kinderkleidung mit Erlebnisgarantie” (“The world’s first children’s clothing with adventures guaranteed”). The Palomino mechanical horses, of which there were three variants, were custom-made for C&A by the company Ode-Automaten (formerly Hummel). The “furious” gallop lasts between 45 and 60 seconds.
