Eva Hesse (1936–1970)
Eva Hesse, who was already severely ill at the time, created these eleven delicate and fragile works from strips of paper and a fine canvas fabric made of thin threads, stretched over balloons. Later, two friends recalled this difficult time for the artist: “. . . I think we had a sense, at a certain point, of Eva’s fragileness. Her production was so compressed and it almost coincided with her illness, that fragileness. . . . Eva got so sick and suddenly her life was hanging […]”.
The artist died on May 29, 1970, at the age of thirty-four.
