The collection of drawings, prints, and books of the Liberna Collection forms the starting point for this exhibition. Devoted to images of the Holy Family in everyday surroundings, the show features works from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.

Father and son, teacher and pupil, brothers in spirit in the interest of impact – not infrequently a joint musical effort spans several generations, a particular kind of “community of common destiny” that unites musicians. The musicians Ludwig Güttler, Volker Stegmann and Friedrich Kircheis shed light on these special connections and relationships. And so the programme brought together Johann Sebastian Bach, his son Carl Philipp Emanuel, and as well his student Gottfried August Homilius.

The showcase exhibition presented 19 etchings of the Haarlem artist Adriaen van Ostade (1610–1685) and his master student Cornelis Dusart (1660–1704) – typically Dutch everyday life scenes – as well as an original copperplate from 1671.
