Description

C&A's first own brand - "Formtreu" - is launched in 1932. The special feature is the so-called "Formtreu" interlining with horsehair and camel hair, which ensures the coats and jackets are stable and fit well. This Ulster - named after the very hard-wearing, densely milled and roughened fabric from the province of Northern Ireland of the same name - is a prime example of our extensive collection of coats and jackets. It is characterised by its long, straight fit with a double-breasted button placket and wide lapels. Documents from our archives provide information on the dating - among other things, historical documents from the in-house production in Mettingen state that 1951 was the start of coat production "with heavy ulsters made of cut velour in double-breasted shapes". The previous owner also provided us with a photograph showing him wearing the coat at his wedding on 22 February 1951.
