Description

Exploring her own roots through the generations, Olga Grotova (b. 1986) combines personal family history, historical events, and nature. During a trip to a former gulag in Kazakhstan, she collected plants and soil samples, which she incorporates into her works as silent witnesses to the past. Her art combines painting with various materials and techniques, including photograms, as in the three-part series Sirens. The resulting images call to mind roots, vessels, or river courses, and illuminate the close connection between body, landscape, and memories.
