Documents
It goes without saying that we also maintain an archive of important C&A documents. These date primarily from C&A’s founding years and form a stand-alone area of the collection. Key written records consist in the annual reports of the C&A companies in the Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain, which are available for the years 1926 to 1961. The number of surviving minutes of managing board and supervisory board meetings, by contrast, is limited. Alongside the sector’s typically low rate of long-term archiving, this can be traced to the fact that many documents were destroyed by fire in 1943 following an air raid on Berlin, and likewise in a fire at C&A’s Dutch headquarters in 1963.
